Two events remain to qualify for World Golf Championships-Cadillac Match Play
Event provides youth (18 and under) and military families complimentary admission
SAN FRANCISCO – Players hoping to participate at the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Match Play have two weeks remaining to rank within the top 64 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) as of Monday, April 20, 2015 when the best players in the world come to TPC Harding Park April 27 – May 3. Players will have this week’s event at The Masters and next week’s event, the RBC Heritage (PGA TOUR), as the final two opportunities to either stay or remain in the top 64 in the OWGR in order to qualify.
J.B. Holmes has moved significantly up in the standings since the start of February thanks to his stellar play over the last half dozen starts. Following his playoff-win over fellow Americans Johnson Wagner and Jordan Spieth at last week’s Shell Houston Open, Holmes is currently ranked No. 12 in the standings, up from No. 72 in the middle of February. In his last six events on the PGA TOUR, Holmes has five top-25 finishes (four in the top 10) including two runner-up finishes and his victory in Houston.
The Kentuckian has two previous starts at the Cadillac Match Play. In his first attempt at the event in 2008, Holmes (then No. 64 seed) gave Tiger Woods all he could handle jumping to a 3-up lead through 13 holes during the first round. Woods birdied three consecutive holes from 14-16 on his way to one the tournament’s most memorable comebacks.

Tournament officials announced that the Cadillac Match Play is proud to continue its policy of providing free or affordable access to the tournament for men and women of the Armed Services. The tournament will provide all active duty, Reserve, military retirees and dependents with complimentary admission to the tournament grounds all week. The Cadillac Match Play also offers significantly discounted admission to veterans. Military members who are interested in the complimentary or discounted admission should go to worldgolfchampionships.com and click on the ticket link for instructions about how to gain access, which is a different process than the past. Non-career military veterans should also log on to worldgolfchampionships.com and find instructions about how to obtain discounted tickets to the tournament. Voucher and Military ID will be required for admission at the gate.
An Opening Ceremony highlighting the military will take place on Wednesday at approximately 9:30 a.m. Join a military member as they sing the National Anthem and the Color Guard in a special presentation to kick off tournament competition.
Tournament officials also announced that youth 18 years or younger will gain complimentary admission if accompanied by a ticketed adult. Free youth admittance provides grounds access only.
“We hope that with a small gesture of providing complimentary access to our event, we can show our support to the men and women in uniform and their families for their past or continued sacrifice,” said Tom Clark, executive director of the Cadillac Match Play. “We also feel a calling to grow the game of golf. By admitting youth 18 and under free of charge, we believe that exposing a young audience to everything that makes the PGA TOUR and the Cadillac Match Play so great, we’re making a positive investment in the game’s future generation of players and fans.”
The Cadillac Match Play is the only official tournament on the PGA TOUR schedule with a match-play format. The 64-player Cadillac Match Play field will be divided into 16 four-player groups. Each group will play round-robin matches within their group on Wednesday, Thursdayand Friday. The player with the best record in each of the four groups advances to the Round of 16 for single-elimination match play (in the event of a two-way tie in a group, head-to-head results will be used as the tiebreaker; a three-way tie will require a sudden-death playoff). The Round of 16 will be played Saturday morning, followed by the Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon. The Semifinals will be Sunday morning, followed by the Championship Match and Consolation Match on Sunday afternoon. This means that fans are guaranteed to see the field in its entirety during the first three days of competition before players begin being eliminated.
