Southern California Desert Loses Golf Legend Fred Scherzer

Southern California Desert Loses Golf Legend Fred Scherzer    by Dan Poppers

What do you say about a person who has faith in you when you are at the beginning of a career, no one returns your calls, and you are doubting your decisions and your future?

What do you say about a person who is a friend to all and, yes, it’s true — he was a friend to all. As one of his friends, you embrace his love for you and his love for others, and you have no envy that you are not the only one he loves.

What do you say about a person who had his share of struggles in life — we all do— but his, at times, were significant and troubling and, yet, he found a way through it all with humor?

What do say about a person who with every person he had contact with, the moniker he generated, “He was good to me.”?

What do say about a person who was always positive regardless of the circumstances?

What do you say about a person only in rare moments would express political views with a tinge of anger?

What do you say about a man that emanated love and was the catalyst for loving him in return?

Fred Scherzer was such a man.

I will miss him dearly.

Fred Scherzer, head golf professional at Avondale Golf Club for over 30 years and more recently salesman for Electric Car Distributors, died on Sunday, May 3, 2015, in Palm Desert, California. He was in hospice care shortly before his passing.
