Address the Ball

Written by Ken Venturi

Make Sure You Really Are Addressing the Ball

Many times golfers make the mistake of not adjusting their setup to the level of the ball when it is sitting up in the rough or settled down in a depression or in the deep grass. As a result, unless they compensate during their swing, they’ll mis-hit the ball.

Here’s my suggestion:
When the ball is sitting up, align the sole of the club with the bottom of the ball. The best way to do this is to choke down on the grip

When the ball is sitting down, increase your knee flex and maintain your flex throughout the swing to ensure that you drive the clubface solidly into the back of the ball.

A Reminder About Timing

Here’s a good rule of thumb:
The longer the club, the more time you have to give your swing.

If you hurry your swing with a driver, you’re just going to get into trouble that much faster.
