Different bunkers require different fundamentals. Greenside bunkers and fairway bunkers cannot be approached in the same manner.

In a fairway bunker:
1. Choke down on the club a few extra inches. You want to avoid hitting too much sand in a fairway bunker and the shorter the club shaft, the less likely you will be to hit a lot of sand.
2. Position the ball in the middle to back of the stance. This will allow you to connect with the golf ball before the sand.
3. Dig your feet into the sand in order to have a firm foot hold.
4. And the most important thing to remember is, always take enough loft to clear the lip of the bunker, even if it means you have to take less club than will get you all the way to the green.
